What I really want is to be a homemaker.
When I get home, I want to become financially independent. If that means taking on two jobs to pay the bills and have a life, so be it. I want to learn how to cook and invite people over to enjoy my food. I want to become really fit by exercising daily. I want to have a one-bedroom apartment with a roommate who I can serve. I want to decorate my space. I want to learn to be thrifty by learning how to sew and by shopping at DI. I want my home to be a place where the Spirit can be felt and a place where I can invite members not of my faith. I want my home to be a place of peace and refuge. Because, after all, there is nothing as exhilarating as the Spirit and no success can compensate for failure in the home.
Call me whatever you want. Plain Jane. Boring. Unambitious. But this is the vision I have for myself. I am happy with it.

This sounds remarkably like my goals for my own life :)
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of good things to do in life. I can see myself traveling and pursuing my education further someday (hopefully with someone I love), but the window for building a family is sort of small and I would rather not fill my life with good things at the expense of the best things.
ReplyDeleteLooks as if you know exactly what your Heavenly Father expects from you! You are a great individual and have even greater potential. Live it up Brianna, live your dreams, and His dream for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jerem!
DeleteGlad you blogged again :) And it's so funny...this sounds just like me! I think, maybe I should go back and get another degree...but I wonder if I'm doing it for me or for everybody else's expectations of me. What I really want is just to be a homemaker who enriches the lives of those around me to the best of my ability. So I guess I should just be true to myself :)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you put that. Be true to myself. I think it's interesting that so many women are trying to "find themselves" outside the home when their divine nature and role pulls them toward building homes and families. There is definitely and opposition in all things.
